It’s two in a row for Wikkie Waks
The Wikki Waks team claimed the Nornan Trophy for the second consecutive year at the ladies' tournament at Bungalows Bowling Club on July 4 and 5.
The annual Nornan bowls tournament for ladies once again drew players from across the province.
The format was pairs and a total of five games were played. On July 4 two games of 12 ends were contested, with the day being concluded with a third game of 18 ends.
On Sunday the women were on the greens for the final two games of 12 ends. The aim was to win each skin, get two points per skin and to win the game to get four points. Teams could accumulate 10 points.
Play started off on Saturday morning with a pre-draw for the two days.
At the end of day one Beryl Biggs, Marietjie Willers, Miranda Paiva and Lynn Nicholas were on top of the log. After the two games of bowls a spider was played and Ray Williams emerged the victor.
The funds that were raised during the spider will be donated towards enabling blind bowlers to also enjoy the game.
Players could then enjoy a well-deserved braai before resting and preparing for the tournament’s last day.
The prize-giving was held after lunch on day two of the tournament and everyone went home with a prize.
Various winners were drawn in a raffle, with Sonja Mouton receiving a hamper. Club president Darryl Cross handed over the prizes and teams were called forward from first place to last, to collect their awards.

Fifth: Go getters – Maggie Barnard, Magriet Theron, Anet van Reyneveldt and Sonja Mouton
Sixth: A-Team – Marlet Ireland, Christie Cross, Lynn Atkinson and Di Sheehy
Seventh: Green Mambas – Maureen Steinbrucker, Marilyn Coulson, Lainie Coulson and Shirley Tyerman
The prize for most touchers for the tournament was awarded to Legogote player Toekie Botha, who achieved a remarkable 20.
