WP unable to score a try against the Pumas

Despite stalwarts like Springbok captain Jean de Villiers in the home team, the Steval Pumas still managed to clinch a convincing 19-6 victory over DHL Western Province in a pre-Currie Cup season warm-up match in Franschoek on Saturday. According to head coach MJ Mentz, his team was eager to play their first game after a long preseason training period. The Pumas started the match with a bang as they established a 12-0 lead early on, while a third try in the 36th minute enabled the visitors to extend their advantage to 17 points at half-time.

WP could only record two penalties and despite not scoring any points in the second half, the Pumas secured a comfortable win. “We are very happy with the progress of the team and way the players used all their opportunities. Although our defence was brilliant, we still have to work on our attacking before our last warm-up match against Boland Cavaliers tomorrow,” Mentz concludes. Here is Hennie Skorwinski.
