White River crowned champions at Matumi

The team squared off against Lydenburg in the Pro Shop League Finals over the weekend.

It was a battle of note on the golf greens when two rivals squared off in the Pro Shop League Finals over the weekend.

The eight-man teams of White River C and Lydenburg A took to the Nelspruit Golf Club on Saturday morning.

It was not the Claret Jug that was at stake, but the honour to be crowned the Lowveld champions.

They played in mixed fourballs and while not a friendly game, the sociability that went with even such competitive games could not be discounted.

Ultimately, White River beat Lydenburg by six points to two. As the Lowveld champions they will now go on to play the Highveld winners in the provincial finals.

It will also be held at the Nelspruit Golf Club on August 1. At the time of going to press, it was not clear who these opponents would be.
