Province’s best female bowlers battle for open title

Jeanette Richards (Lowveld) and Sonja Moulton (Highveld) had to fight it out in the finals.

A nail-biting final came down to great sportsmanship and bowls between Jeanette Richards (Lowveld) and Sonja Moulton (Highveld). They had to fight it out in the Mpumalanga Open Masters ladies singles that was held in Middelburg on July 18
and 19.

Twenty women of the Lowveld, Highveld and Central were chosen to participate. It’s a great privilege to participate in this tournament and only the strongest players are chosen. The Lowveld ladies come from Mbombela, Barberton, Hazyview and White River.

The format of play were singles and the bowler who reached 21 points first was declared the winner. There were four sections with five bowlers in each. Some games reached up to 27 ends before a winner was declared. Three games were played on day one (Saturday) with a bye and day two one more on the Sunday with the semi-finals and finals that same afternoon.
