Hazyview’s Ireland wins her section
The Mpumalanga Open Masters Ladies' Singles Bowling Championship was a tough challenge but a local player managed to come out on top.
A nail-biting final came down to great sportsmanship between a Lowvelder and a Highvelder at the Mpumalanga Open Masters Ladies’ Singles Bowling Championship in Middelburg on July 18 and 19.
Sonja Moulton of the Highveld team was crowned champion, while Lowvelder Jeanette Richards had to settle for second place. Marlet Ireland of Hazyview was the winner of section one.
A total of 20 women the from Lowveld and Highveld were chosen to participate. Everyone said it was a great privilege to play in this tournament and only the strongest players were chosen to participate.
The Lowveld ladies hailed from Nelspruit, Barberton, Hazyview and White River.
Participants had to play in single format and were not allowed to play in groups. There were four sections with five bowlers each.
The bowler who was the first to reach 21 points was declared the winner. However, some games reached up to 27 ends before a winner was declared.
Saturday saw three games with one more game on Sunday. The semi-finals and finals took place that afternoon.
