Aces and Chiefs ready to battle it out at Mbombela Stadium
In-form Mpumalanga Black Aces will entertain Kaizer Chiefs in the quarter-finals of the Telkom Cup at Mbombela Stadium.
This fixture will take place on the Saturday October 24. Aces gained passage to the quarter-finals after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic on penalties, while Chiefs edged out Platinum Stars by 3-0.
Speaking to Mpumalanga News after the draw on Monday, the Mbombela Stadium spokesperson, Mthuthuzeli Qamba said this was good news for the city of Mbombela and the province as a whole.
He said this fixture would help attract more soccer supporters back to the stadium. “This is certainly good news for us as the stadium and for all soccer supporters in the province because they will surely be entertained to some great football.
“The fact that both teams are on top of their game will make this clash entertaining,” said Qamba.
He added that they were ready to host the giants. “We are more than ready for this clash. We have actually successfully hosted a number of big games at the stadium and I hope that local supporters will come to the party and play their part by filling the stadium to the rafters.”
He said they would inform the public about ticket sales and other logistics such as park-and-ride arrangements. The semi-finals will be played on November 7 and 8, while the finals will take place on Reconciliation Day, December 16.
Brand de Villiers, the PSL chief executive, said the league had to move the TKO final to mid-December to accommodate the South African u/23 side that will participate in the CAF mini-tournament as part of the Rio 2016 Olympics qualification. The venue and kick-off time will be announced in due course.
