Local bowls players off to finals

Two players from Nelspruit Bowling Club placed second and third to progress through to the Lowveld Open Single bowling finals.

Two local residents recently made it to the Mpumalanga play-offs after a battle among bowlers on the greens.

Nelspruit Bowling Club hosted the Mpumalanga Lowveld Open Single bowling finals on October 18.

The greens ran smoothly, but some bowlers battled to find the right curve and exact weight to draw their bowls as close as possible to the jack.

The 16 women participating in the open ladies category represented Nelspruit, LVCC, Malalane, Hazyview, White River, Barberton and Sabie bowling clubs.

They played singles, and the bowler who reached 21 points first was declared the winner.

They put their hearts into it, but it was Martie Janse van Vuuren of Barberton who walked off the lawn as the overall winner.

Marina Smith and Jenette Richards, both from Nelspruit Bowling Club, placed second and third respectively.

The finals take place this weekend in Mbombela and Barberton.
