Gymnasts stand a chance to attend champs in USA

“There is a strict selection criterion to attend such an event. It means that the gymnasts from NGA are considered to be of an international standard,” says Maré Putter, head coach
and owner.

With a prestigious reputation, NGA is one of 11 other gymnastics clubs that could represent South Africa in America.

USAIG was founded in 1973 and reorganised in 2001. Its goal is to nurture and prepare well-balanced gymnasts for
the future.

With a progressive competitive programme and an inclusive approach the outcome was the formation of the IAIGC.

Six countries have already joined forces with the organisation like Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Romania, South Africa and the United Kingdom. These countries follow the same set of rules and guidelines as voted upon by members.

Such a collaboration creates opportunities to host international events and next year the international gymnastic challenge will be hosted on South African soil for the second time.

NGA has 14 gymnasts who have the potential to compete in the USA in June. Selection will be based on regular attendance, overall performance and fitness.

Each gymnast will need R40 000 to cover expenses and half of it must already be deposited by December. It is a large sum of money which poses a challenge to gymnasts and their families. Every effort will be made to raise the money needed.

NGA will liaise with local NPO Mpumalanga Gymnastic Development to meet their financial goals.
