On Sunday Driekoppies Stadium became the battleground for the final round in the Shongwe County Stream, which saw Mashaba United, Iraq, Driekoppies Hotspurs, and Mbokodo Wanderers clashing.

Mashaba United ran over Iraq with an entertaining 3-1 scoreline to make its way to the second place on the log with 30 points.

For Mashaba United this victory will be an excellent stepping stone in the second round.

Speaking to Corridor Gazette Mashaba United coach, Mr Thokozani Khoza, said they needed to win this game to keep the momentum in the team going.

He said, “We are trying to build a positive foundation for our second-round games. This means we have to work much harder.”

After 90 minutes, Mbokodo Wanderers, were still sitting on top of the log with 34 points, despite losing 1-0 to Driekoppies Hotspurs.

The second-round games are expected to get underway next year January.

Meanwhile in other soccer results from local clubs playing in the ABC Motsepe League, Mlambo Royal Cubs hosted Witbank Citylads FC at KamaQhekeza Stadium.

Supporters were treated to a five-goals thriller, with both sides finding the back of their counterparts’ net.

However, Mlambo Royal Cubs ensured that their supporters were not disappointed when it guaranteed the score board ended in its favour.

Phiva Young Stars which were meant to play Mapulaneng United FC, were in action against Mbombela United as part of the International Fifa Friendly Matches Week.

The clash was postponed and rescheduled for this weekend at Thulamashashe New Stadium. Kick-off is at 15:00.
