Find your inner warrior on ultimate course

The biggest obstacle-course race on the continent is coming to the Lowveld.

At a glitz-and-glamour function in Sandton, Johannesburg on Wednesday evening, Advendurance announced the Jeep Warrior Races’ 2016 venues and dates.

The fifth leg of the eight-leg series will be held at Kwanyoni Lodge in Alkmaar.

What makes the Jeep Warrior Races unique is that absolutely anyone can participate, “all you need is a pair of tekkies,” Fritz Pienaar, Warrior Company director commented.

“We have various options for various fitness levels ranging from BlackOps for the hardcore, Commando for intermediate and Rookie for beginners,” Pienaar added.

The addition of a Bratz event for the kids will make the events even more attractive to families.

The event has struck a chord with adventure-loving South Africans, presenting a physical and mental challenge, turning everyday people into warriors in the spirit of overcoming adversity.

The events are spectator-friendly and supporters can watch athletes overcome obstacles and in many cases their fears. The encouragement from the crowds and the camaraderie between athletes contribute to create a vibe the Jeep Warrior Race has become renowned for.

Mbombela’s Kwanyoni Lodge will be the host the fifth event in 2016 the weekend of September 24 and 25.

What is obstacle-course racing?
Outdoor obstacle courses present playtime for kids and adults. They get down and dirty, face challenges, overcome fears and have fun. They help one another and share stories of achievements and epic fails afterwards.

The athletes competing will be challenged by world-class obstacles that will involve jumping over burning fires, crawling through mud under a wire fence, battling up slippery slopes and running or swimming across water obstacles. There might even be a few variations of rope obstacles that need to be conquered and a few other messy surprises.

The Jeep Warrior Race offers four courses:
• Bratz – one kilometre, eight obstacles, tailored for the kids
• Rookie – six to eight kilometres, 15 obstacles, aimed at having fun with mates
• Commando – 10 kilometres, 20 obstacles, labelled as the ultimate team-building challenge
• BlackOps – 18 to 20 kilometres, 30 obstacles, this race is for the serious athlete.
