Aces occupy third place in Absa Premiership
Mpumalanga Black Aces have climbed to the third spot of the Absa Premiership table after trashing Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 on Sunday at the newly built Dr Molemela Stadium in Mangaung, Bloemfontein.
The two goals from each half through Lebogang Manyama and Eddie Ngalo were enough to secure the home team a third spot with 21 points.
Aces are now five points behind the log leaders, Bidvest Wits, two behind Mamelodi Sundowns and three ahead of defending champions Kaizer Chiefs. Two more wins would enable Aces to obtain the top spot, depending on Wits’ results.
“We do not want to pre-empt things, but yes, our focus is the top spot, but we will take each game as it comes,” said Aces’ public relations officer, Gordon Masondo.
He said after being knocked out of the Telkom Knockout competition, they dedicate their focus and energy to doing better in the league.
“We actually said at the beginning of the season that we want to finish within the top- eight bracket and for us to be able to finish in a decent position, we need to win games, and that is what we are doing.
“We are just four games away from finishing the first round and we need to collect maximum points in all of those games.
“This will lessen the pressure when the second round resumes,” said Masondo.
Aces will have another opportunity to increase their points when they take on Ajax Cape Town on December 19 at Mbombela Stadium.
