School proud of star players
Talented Sharks fly half, Innocent Radebe, started his rugby career at Nelspruit Primary in 2002.
He played for the u/9 A side for three consecutive years. When he was only seven years old, his coach back then, Albert van Putten had realised that this boy was far too agile to play with the grade ones. “We moved him to the u/9 side where he played flank.” In his grade-three year he started playing fly half and at the end of the year, he moved to Johannesburg, where he played fly half for the Lions in his grade six and seven year.
Innocent went to St Stithians College where he played Craven Week for three years for the Lions in number 10. He was selected for the Springboks u/21 in 2015, but unfortunately injured his ankle and was ruled out of the Junior World Cup. He had a very solid match in Stellenbosch for the Varsity Cup Dream Team against the Junior Boks, but was ruled out of the tour because of the injury he sustained while on Vodacom Cup duty.
Innocent has been included in the Sharks Super 18 squad for next year and hopefully this talented player will get some game time in 2016. He spent most of the session under Patrick Lambie’s tutelage as the pivot position proved to be one of the Sharks’ unanticipated headaches last season after Lambie’s biceps injury.
The Lowveld school boasts with yet another talented rugby player, Ethan Louw. He played for the Pumas u/12 and u/13 team in 2007 and 2008 and is included in the University of Johannesburg’s Varsity Cup. Louw went to Pretoria Boys High in 2009 and also played first team for them in 2012. “We as a school are so proud of these boys and we wish them the best of luck on their journey,” Van Putten concluded.
