Cheerleaders prepare for battle

The 2016 cheerleaders for Lowveld High School (LHS) were introduced to the spectators at the school on Tuesday during their first singing practice for this year's Interhigh.

MBOMBELA – Schools are not only diligently working on their track and field items, but also working on their spirit to show the rest of the Lowveld.

The event is always full of energy, high spirits, and cheerleaders chanting, “We’ve got the spirit, yes we do!” to a pavilion of thousands of pupils, in a kaleidoscope of colour.

After their third-place finish last year in the singing trophy competition, the LHS team is eager to raise the bar.

According to LHS’ Francina du Plessis, “The school needs the Spirit Cup and the learners refuse to settle for less than first place.”

She also said in their first cheerleading practice last week, a feeling of euphoria rose among the learners.

The army of 350 – nearly a quarter of the school – is a force to be reckoned with. The cheerleaders have their singing sleeves rolled up and are ready to lead the Lowveld High army to victory.

Past experiences have proved that the success of this event, where an impressive number of passionate supporters comprising friends, family and school officials gather to cheer on their respective teams, depends on the support of the stakeholders.
