Witbank prove too strong for Bergvlam counterparts
Rugby captain Tristan Louw played his 45th match for Hoërskool Bergvlam's first team against HTS Witbank on Saturday.
Tristan has been part of the team since 2014, when he was in grade nine, and has captained the team since last year. Along with his fellow teammates, Bongi Langa, Zane Weideman and his brother Jayden, Tristan was also selected for the u/19A Pumas team.
Sadly, this did not help the host side to overcome their opponents, who simply proved too strong in all four of the rugby clashes.
The first team lost 8-42. Sport coordinator, Pieter Wolmarans said competing in the macro-schools rugby league has proved challenging for the Bergvlam players.
“We previously played in the medium-schools league and in 2015 we had two rugby teams in the finals. For the last two years we have competed in the macro-schools league, which we have found much more difficult.

”Even though this has been a transitional season for Bergvlam’s rugby boys, four of the team’s players were still selected for the Pumas team,” Wolmarans told Lowvelder.
On the hockey field, it was only the Vlammies second-team girls who were able to overcome their opponents, with a 2-1 victory. The junior teams both lost 0-7.
