Horn Brothers place third in tough desert race

Johan and Werner Horn competed in the third round of the SA Cross Country Series on June 24 and 25 and made it to the podium.

Local motorsport stars Johan and Werner Horn had a great run during the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race on June 24 and 25. They took third place, behind former Dakar Rally winner, Giniel de Villiers and Dennis Murphy, and SA champions Leeroy Poulter and Rob Howie.

The first two vehicles crossed the finish line with just six seconds separating them.

The typically tough desert race is the third round of the South African Cross Country Series (SACCS) and demanded reserves of stamina and determination from crews.

The Horn brothers in the Malalane Toyota Hilux, finished comfortably ahead of Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable in the Ford NWM Puma Lubricants Ranger.

The two teams went into the race closely bunched in the Class T championship and their battle is expected to last for the rest of the season.

The next event on the SACCS calendar is a new one, the Eeram Farmers 400, and will be run near Harrismith in the Free State on July 28 and 29.
