Mbangwane Primary wins u/13 Build it Soccer Tournament

Sixteen teams competed for great prizes in the finals of this year's Build it u/13 soccer tournament at Kamhlushwa Stadium.

Mbangwane Primary’s u/13 soccer team outplayed 32 other teams to be the winners of this year’s Build it u/13 Soccer Tournament.

An intense knockout round over two days in August saw 16 teams move to the finals held at KaMhlushwa Stadium on Saturday.

Schools gathered at Build it early and marched to the stadium with great fanfare.

After action-packed games between the top 16, top eight, top four and then the finals, Mbangwane Primary were the only team left undefeated. They were awarded a trophy, certificates, a JoJo water tank, soccer bags and R10 000 to upgrade their school facilities.

Mdladla Primary were the runners-up and won soccer bags, trophies, certificates and a JoJo water tank.

Retired Bafana Bafana star, Fabian McCarthy addressed the crowd and congratulated Build it and the other stakeholders for taking the initiative and investing in a soccer tournament. He commented on how much fun the boys had and that he thought it was great that the winning school was also benefiting by getting money to upgrade their school facilities.

He stated that tournaments like these play an essential role in developing future soccer players.

“The question is where are they going to go from here? They need to be groomed, grounded and taught more skills. We are giving them a foundation and it can only get better from here,” he said.

Jeanine Grieb from Build it Tonga, KaMhlushwa and Masibekela, who partnered with Safa to organise the soccer tournament, stated that this is their way of giving back to the community for their support.

“We’ve thought of many different ways to give back to our community and to us it is important to involve our youth to make sure they form healthy habits,” she stated.
