Home-grown talent takes the race trophies

More than 500 runners from across the Lowveld and the country competed for the top spot, with great times recorded on the day.

The Nedbank Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) running club hosted the seventh annual Ehlanzeni Sport Tourism race, in conjunction with the Ehlanzeni District Municipality, on Saturday October 21 at the Mbombela Stadium.

According to race organiser, Mark Greeff, the prize money for both the 10- and 21 kilometre races are the highest in Mpumalanga, and some of the top runners from across the country took part in the race to compete for the R7 000 first prize in the 21-kilometre race.

“The event promotes social cohesion and fitness. South Africa must be a non-racial society and we must not discriminate. Sport is something that helps us to build the nation and come together. In doing so we are learning from each other,” said MMC Makhosazani Masilena of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality who walked the five-kilometre fun run.
