Among golf clubs there is a day set aside just for the caddies.
A total of 48 caddies from MGC, Barberton Golf Club, Kruger Park Lodge, Malalane Country Club, Sabie River Bungalows and White River Country Club showcased their golfing skills. The Caddies Challenge, hosted at MGC on Monday, was played in an individual stableford, off-scratch handicap format.
Samuel Lukhele.
Mabuza slipped with bogeys on the first, fourth and fifth, but managed to get his head back in the game with only one bogey over the last nine.
Steven Lukhuleni (Team Du Toit Smuts & Partners) of Sabie River Bungalows placed his ball closest to the pin on the 17th hole while Mabuza and Lawrence Mashego of Kruger Park Lodge were awarded prizes for the longest drive on the ninth (316 metres) and 18th (384 metres).
Sipho Nkosi.
In 2011 only four teams competed in the challenge and this year 12 teams took to the field; next year will see 17 fourballs.
“Without our sponsors, this annual event will not be possible. “Our aim is to get more sponsors involved so that more teams can enter,” said Nick Elliot of Ulusha Projects.
The spokesman for the caddies, Mabuza, said they highly appreciate all the parties involved.
“Thank you to all the sponsors and especially to Mr Elliot. I must also congratulate the staff of MGC; the course is looking great and as always, we enjoyed the day.”
Barberton Golf Club’s Zweli Nkosi, who placed third at last years’ challenge, claimed the third position yet again. This year he was part of the Du Toit Smuts & Partners team.
Lawrence Mdluli of MGC and member of Team Kruger & Partners, moved three spots up from 2016 after he was awarded second place.
