Nine ringball players selected for Super 9
According to Rodney Haywood, chairman of the Mpumalanga Lowveld Ringball District, the teams have been working hard to set the new season in motion.

Players from the six teams which comprise Mpumalanga Lowveld Ringball District gathered at Van Riebeeck Park for their first open day of the year.
“We are looking to grow interest in the sport and add to our numbers,” he said, adding that many people are confused when they hear ringball. The name of the sport was changed from korfball to ringball in 1995.

The name change allowed Ringball South Africa to promote the sport internationally with the aim of increasing the reach and popularity thereof.
“By changing the name of the sport it enabled the national governing bodies to recognise it as a unique sport code and in 2010 an International Ringball Federation was established,” Haywood explained.
“We are also very proud of seven of our men’s players which have been selected to represent the province at his year’s Ringball South Africa Super 9 Competition which will take place in Tshwane on February 10,” said Haywood.

On the day there will also be courses for coaches and referees to ensure that each aspect of the league’s preparation for the season complies with national requirements.
