Youngsters test skills on the field

The aim is to develop skills and maximise on each child's ability, to give them the edge over competitors and ultimately walk away with more wins.

The first run of a newly introduced cricket event, aimed to give youngsters the opportunity to compete in a team format, recently took place at Penryn.

Thirty boys aged between 10 and 13 have already signed up, and organiser Eric Grimaldi hopes to attract even more. “The aim is to develop skills and maximise on each child’s ability, to give them the edge over competitors and ultimately walk away with more wins,” said Grimaldi.

All players that arrive get divided into teams. Runs get subtracted for each wicket taken, but the batsmen needs to face 24 balls to give them maximum exposure to the game, and to make things interesting. While in the crease, Eric would share techniques in a positive, fun and interactive manner, honing in on skills through confidence building and positive reinforcement. “Though non-competitive, it acts as a seeding event for LVCC,” he said.

It costs R50 per game. “Pam Golding has agreed to pay half of new participants’ apparel, but they need to buy their own cap,” said Grimaldi.

To join the group every Sunday from 12:00, contact Eric on 082-457-1921.
