Curro Nelspruit juniors are still undefeated
Curro Nelspruit will kick off their Noordvaal campaign today against Penryn College on the latter's fields.
At the weekend, Curro hosted their larger counterpart from Pretoria, Curro Hazeldean, for their final preparations ahead of Noordvaal.
Once again, the host’s junior teams put on a stalwart performance.
Nelspruit’s u/14 smashed the visiting team 72-0, leading at half-time by 34-0 while the u/15s won with a massive score of 64-0.

The u/14s received the kick-off and through some strong runs from their forwards scored under the posts in the first minute of the game. In the second half the forwards provided quality possession for their backline players to create multiple scoring opportunities.
In the u/15 match, the spectators were keen to watch the 2017 Virseker Beker winners in action. They were in fine form, displaying great handling skills to split the Hazeldean defence, going into half-time 52-0 up. The second half was much of the same and the officials stopped the match early.
Curro’s u/16s have come off two close victories and were eager for an opportunity to stretch their legs and exhibit some running rugby. Once again the match was a closely contested affair for much of the first half with Curro Nelspruit outscoring Hazeldean two tries to one at the break.
In the second half, the Mbombelans found their rhythm. The forwards made some barging runs that were too much for the Hazeldean players to contend with and resulted in the home team scoring another six tries to one in the second half with a final score of 52-14.

It was down to the first team to battle it out. After a tough morning the Hazeldean coaches were intensely motivating their players. They came out firing, but Curro weathered the storm and defended courageously. The Hazeldean team were frustrated in that they could not penetrate the opposition’s defence and their mistakes led to quality possession for Curro.
The hosts put some phases together by way of slick interplay between forwards and backs and began to dominate the collisions. This proved too much for Hazeldean to handle and Nelspruit ran out as the deserved 60-8 winners.
