Prince takes the title at Nite Race

Run Walk 4 Life's Prince Ndlovu cruised to yet another victory in the 2018 season when he defended his LowMed Nite Race title on Wednesday.

His winning time of 35,14 was almost three minutes under his 2017 time of 37,26.

South Africa’s 2016 long-distance trail champion, Johardt van Heerden, placed second, a mere 11 seconds behind the Uniwisp Fast Marathon champion, Ndlovu.

Third-place finisher in the 2017 Build it God’s Window 21-kilometre race, Freedom Makhubela’s time of 37,52 was enough to take the bronze medal. He also rounded off the podium after last year’s race behind Folavio Sehohle, who did not compete this year.

The second LowMed Nite Race Trail Run saw 185 eager athletes – 35 more than in 2017 – make their way to the Walters’ Stellenrust Farm on the outskirts of Mbombela for the five- and 12-kilometre events.

“We received a lot of positive feedback after the race. Entrants were very pleased with the well-marked route and we are planning a day trail run in the near future,” said one of the organisers, Harry Wiltshire.

Bongor Shangne totally annihilated the five-kilometre course in a time of 21 minutes, 51 seconds, followed by the first junior women runner, Kristen Berry in 24:22.
