Kamffers make name in Africa
Equestrian riders from Nottinghill, Hannelize "Fling" and Kraai Kamffer recently returned from Namibia where they competed in the FEI Inter Africa Cup.
Three riders from Mpumalanga were honoured to be chosen this year to represent South Africa. Danel van Heerden from Middelburg was the youngest rider ever to be chosen for the dressage team at the age of 12 years.
Fling won three out of her three classes, including the Individual Africa Cup 1,30-metre championship on Shadow Fly.
Kraai took gold in one of her individual classes, the FEI World Challenge Category C on Lezar Solero, and took a fourth place in the 1,10-metre Individual Africa Cup Championship. Her two perfect clear rounds in the team event contributed to South Africa ending fourth.
With the help of Danel’s trainer, Kraai, she managed to outdo her adult competitors from over the continent with a third place in the elementary dressage. The South African dressage team ended third overall in the team placements.
More than 200 horses took part in this show. Some had to be transported from as much as 1 200 kilometres away to compete in this great initiative.
