Penryn College's first girls hockey team on Tuesday breezed into their sixth consecutive victory after a comfortable win of 5 goals to 0 against Hoërskool Bergvlam. Early in the first half of the game, Jemma McKenzie sounded the board for Penryn in the fourth minute.
Ashleigh Smyth (18′), Pauline Lloyd (22′), Hannah Büchner (39′) and Bongiwe Mdhluli (53′) also scored for Penryn.
Vlammies’ Lebo Molobela had some great runs with the ball and her teammates defended much better in the second half.

*Barberton High School’s first rugby team demolished Bergvlam on Saturday, winning 39-14. After seven matches of the Mpumalanga medium schools league, Barberton is still undefeated and tops the log.
They will face Hoërskool Kanonkop in Middelburg on Saturday. It is the first time since 2014 that Barberton’s first team is unbeaten.
“Last year we had a very young team and we selected players with the goal in mind to nurture the players for this year. The guys are doing very well this season and they want to work even harder to hopefully win the league,” said coach Jean Pieterse.
*The KMI Airport Rhinos were up against Hoërskool Menlopark in the Virsekerbeker for Makro Schools.

They were outplayed by the physical size of Menlopark going down 12-39.
Four of NHS’ star players, Banele Mthenjane, Stefan Smit, Paul Rheeder and Riaan Swanepoel were not available for the fixture in Pretoria due to injuries. Paul suffered a hit to the head in their first encounter of the Virsekerbeker against EG Jansen and will be out for six weeks. Loose head prop, Braam de Villiers and wing Anton van Eijk scored for NHS with Timmy Townsend converting one of the tries.
