Talented dancer joins M-langa team

Leandrie Botes, a pupil of Hoërskool Bergvlam participated in a ranking dance competition in Randburg recently.

During the competition she achieved three gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals. She is currently ranked 19th in South Africa.

She has 10 years of ballet experience and has been dancing with Tanya Edwards at Rhythm Image Dance Studio for two years in solo Latina, competing in 12 different styles of dance.

Even though Leandrie is predominantly classically trained she has turned her focus to perfecting hip hop, a style which is unlike ballet.

She recently completed the Dance Sport School League coaching course up to level two, which allows her to coach dancers at schools in the new Dance Sport School League (DSSL).

It is open to any students age nine to 18 years old. All the school has to do is join the league and employ a qualified DSSL coach. Kids wear their school sports clothing and a pair of sneakers. The DSSL runs in line with school sporting codes and compete in an interschools league, where dancers can be selected for district, provincial and national teams, and can also be selected to dance internationally for South Africa.

Leandrie has been selected for the u/18 Mpumalanga provincial team due to compete in their interprovincial tournament in July in KwaZulu-Natal.

Her aim is to be a dance coach and to represent her country in a South African team.
