Clive to have his first taste of an SA championship

Clive Lebotsa (17) and Johny Smit (17) will represent the province at the SA’s in Newcastle.

Two wrestlers from White River Wrestling Club (WRWC) have been selected to represent their province at the South African Championships at the end of June.

Clive Lebotsa (17) and Johny Smit (17) will represent the province at the SA’s in Newcastle. The competition will take place from June 29 to June 30.

It will be Clive’s first taste of South African Championships after only being with the club for 10 months.

Johny, who has represented his country at the African Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco last year will most definitely be a medal contender in the freestyle and Greco/Roman category.

Teammate, Jean-Michael Delassus invited the two brothers to come and join after walking passed them at White River Rugby Club. The Lebotsa brothers were playing with a rugby ball at the club.

They asked Jean-Michael if he wants to play with them, an invitation he accepted. Jean-Michael told them more about the sport of wrestling.

The two wrestlers are not the only members of WRWC that will be representing the province. Coach Christo Schoeman, admin officials, Adele Smit and Maria Labuschagne, were elected to accompany the team.
Lappies Labuschagne from the club says that the club has a planned programme as part of preparations for the tournament.

“They practice twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday. They focus on a lot of physical exercise, power exercise, conditioning and practicing in different roles. They also do workouts while they are at home.”

“Both the wrestlers are reaping rewards of their hard work. They love wrestling and they do not miss training sessions,” said Labuschagne.
