Fun equitation training at Mataffin

Mataffin Riding Club hosted a Show-jumping and Equitation Training Show to promote and develop grass-roots riders in the Lowveld.

Instructors made sure all riders got a chance to complete the course and gave hands-on advice and tuition without the pressure of a graded competition.

It was an exciting and positive weekend and prepared the riders for the next graded event.

All riders got to complete three show-jumping classes on Saturday.

The highlight of the day was the soccer relay class in which riders had to jump a course. For every clear jump their nominated groom or dad got an attempt to score a soccer goal.

All dads, riders and grooms met in the arena to try out the very serious goalkeeper, Shaun Gillespie’s, skills.

In the 40 to 50-centimetre class Team Double Blush ridden by Kiara Craven was victorious, with the 60 to 70 centimetres being won by Zane Flemix’s team on Penny Black. The 90-centimetre soccer relay was won by Team Savanna Combrink on Dunhill. On Sunday riders were able to try out equitation for the first time under the guidance of Kim Husband who is president of Mpumalanga Equitation and a novice equitation judge.
