Durbanite wins Ehlanzeni Sports & Tourism marathon
Ethekwini runner Ayanda Mncebu triumphed in the 21 kilometres in the eighth annual Ehlanzeni Sports & Tourism Day event on Saturday.
He notched his first victory on Mbombela turf with a time of 1:05,45.
Moses Mahlungu, of Midack, made up a lot of ground over the past few 100 metres and placed second with a time of 1:05,59.
This year’s Selati Marathon title holder, Folavio Sehohle, was in a lot of pain and had to clench his teeth to finish the race.
“I was competing in new running shoes and at the end of the race my feet were bleeding and I had some blisters. But nonetheless it was not my best race, I am just glad that I could take the bronze medal,” said Sehohle.
Born 2 Win’s Catherine Skosana was in control for most of the race, clocking a winning time of 1:24,55.
Eunice Nhlapho (Eskom) came second in 1:26,11 and Andronica Mokgotla of Nedbank came in third in 1:29,10.
William Mothosola of LowMed Family Health & Sports Performance Centre, who took the silver in the 10 kilometres after the race, said he was disappointed with his time.

“If I finish second, you should know it was not a good race. I am still struggling from an injury and I had to withdraw from the South African Championships a few weeks ago. I am feeling a lot better, but I am still not where I want to be,” said Mothosola.
The athlete from LowMed was beaten by Boxer’s Thabang Mosiako from North West. His time of 30;05 was enough to secure him the gold medal.
Defending junior champion of the Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon, Nomvula Sithole, was the first junior to complete the 10 kilometres with a time of 40,33. She was the third woman overall to finish the race. Farida Zwane (Thembisa, 37,30) came first followed by Winile Mnisi (Nedbank, 40,16) in second.

Moris Maiga of Legogote Villagers, who wants to run the 2019 edition of the Comrades Marathon in under six hours, was pleased by his time of 35,46.
“My training is going very well and I am positive that I will achieve my goal.”
Just short of 600 runners participated on Saturday.
Next up is the Uniwisp Kaapsehoop 3-in-1 Marathon this Saturday.
