Douw, Junior set the pace
Hoërskool Nelspuit's ABSA athlete of the year, Douw Kruger, will use his Triple J three gold medals as a launching pad for next year's season as a star of the future on Saturday.

The 16-year-old got his first medal in shot put with a distance of 16,78 metres, which is worth 1 002 ABSA points. Douw bagged his second first place in discus with a throw of 49,2 metres (969) and his third in javelin with a distance of 58,61 metres (913).
The day, however, belonged to the host school, Hoërskool Rob Ferreira’s junior athletes, especially their sprinters.
Lowazi Mogodiri (boys u/15) won his second gold medal in only a week when he improved on his time in the 200 metres set at the Marius Lengton Prestige meeting by 42 split seconds.
Promising runner, Junior Mondlane (u/15), scored the most ABSA points by a local athlete at the meeting. His time of 13,23 seconds in the 100-metre hurdles secured him a gold medal and a total of 1 014 points. Teammate Thabiso Matheba came in second with a time of 13,65 seconds (927).
Curro Nelspruit’s Rhulani Mathebula (u/14, 100 metres) and Kuhle Mnisi (u/15, 100-metre hurdles) will be strong contenders for the school at next year’s Curro Holdings Interschools meeting.
A number of local athletes aged 15 years and younger will travel to Potchefstroom for the interprovincials on November 24.
