True sportsmanship marks Uplands-Rob derby

Amazing sportsmanship was shown by both schools and rugby neighbourly friendship was rekindled and ultimately the only thing that mattered.

The much-anticipated, first-of-its-kind Uplands versus Rob Ferreira derby took place on Uplands’ fields this past weekend.

Unbeaten ISG Pumas prepared to take on Leopards

Whereas Uplands’ home advantage was meant to give them a boost on the rugby field, it was the visitors who came out on top in almost all clashes.

But for Uplands, there was something bigger happening than just winning. Amazing sportsmanship was shown by both schools and rugby neighbourly friendship was rekindled and ultimately the only thing that mattered. Uplands will, however, seek redemption should they clash again this season. The u/14s took the heaviest defeat of 63-0, the u/15s lost their clash 39-12 and the u/16s walked away with a score of 28-0. Rob continued their winning streak by beating the second team 45-14 and the first team 35-12.

After the hockey boys gave it their all against Hoërskool Nelspruit last week, the strain they took became evident when Rob’s u/14s were the only team managed to clench a win. Uplands convincingly beat the u/16s and first team, 5-2 and 7-0 respectively.

In a completely opposite result than on the rugby field, Uplands’ girls did their school proud when they won all but one game on the hockey field.
• u/14 A: Uplands win 5–0
• u/15 A: Uplands win 1–0
• u/16 A: Rob Ferreira win 6-0
• Second team: Uplands win 6–2
• First team: Uplands win 1–0.

It was a day filled with action, emotion and diligence on the netball fields. In the end Rob Ferreira won four games, tied two and lost two against Uplands.
• u/14 B: Rob Ferreira win 10-9
• u/14 A: Uplands win 12-8
• u/15 B: Rob Ferreira win 9-5
• u/15 A: Tied 9-9
• u/16 B: Rob Ferreira win 20-6
• u/16 A: Tied 13-13
• Second team: Uplands win 15-6
• First team: Rob Ferreira win 23-20.
