Bowlers play in Mpumalanga Tournament

Each team competed against one another in singles, pairs, trips and fours with points awarded based on the results.

Every year the Mpumalanga Bowls District tests the strength of their up-and-coming bowlers by competing in a development competition between the three zones.

This year Central, Highveld and Lowveld zone teams assembled in Barberton to determine the best ladies’ and men’s teams.

The event was held over three days.Each team consisted of five members, with Lowveld zone entering two teams in the ladies’ and men’s divisions.

Marnelle Price (Central) was the winner of the ladies’ singles competition while Rian Harris (Highveld) won the men’s singles.

Based on their performance, individual bowlers earned points to establish the bowlers on the competition.

Debbie Day and Estelle Venter (Lowveld) won the ladies’ section by achieving the highest score for women in this competition while Bertie Erasmus, Vincent Sonnekus and Desmond Visser (Highveld) achieved the highest score in the men’s sides.

In the ladies’ team’s competition Lowveld dominated with the Lowveld green team of Venter, Day, Karien Greyvenstein, Pat Jones and Andri van der Bergh beating the Lowveld yellow team into second place.

In the men’s competition, Highveld won their final game against the Lowveld yellow team to win the competition with the latter finishing second.

Ladies
• Lowveld green – 40,5
• Lowveld yellow – 37,0
• Central – 27,5
• Highveld – 15,0.

Men
• Highveld – 41,0
• Lowveld yellow – 38,0
• Central – 27,0
• Lowveld green – 14,0.
