The Vlammie girls ruled on the hockey pitch by winning three out of four matches. The first teams’ hockey match was a thriller with both teams showing their class on the field.
It was a hard-fought match but it was Lowveld High’s Sanele Siwela who scored the game’s only goal shortly before full time to give her team a 1-0 win.
The Bergvlam u/14 girls were on fire and put three goals past the keeper. Lowveld High could simply not keep up with the pace forced by the Vlammies. Lwanzile Dlamini, Phodisho Moloto and Naledi Mokoena scored for Bergvlam.
The u/15 team from the home school were equally impressive as their younger schoolmates. They crushed Lowveld High 4-0 with Faye March scoring twice. Razeena Nomani and Kuhle Nyalunga also scored. Lowveld High’s first rugby team won a thriller against Bergvlam. Thabang Makwetla put the home side 3-0 up with an early penalty kick.
Neo Mafundla scored a try to give Lowveld High a 5-3 half-time lead. Given Phiri put Lowveld High 10-3 up with a second half try.
Vlammies’ Braam Vermeulen scored a try on the hooter, but the conversion attempt was not successful and Lowveld High won 10-8. Lowveld High’s u/16, second and first rugby teams, and the u/18B, u/15A and u/19A netball teams have qualified for the next round of competition.
