Boschfontein FC and Blue Crane clash in Selati Cup finals

After epic clashes last Sunday, defending champs Boschfontein FC and Langeloop Blue Crane are set to face off in the Selati Cup finals tomorrow (Sunday).

Driekoppies Stadium was packed to the brim with supporters cheering on their favourite teams during the semi-final clashes in the Selati Cup last Sunday.

Defending champions, Boschfontein FC were up first against Mananga Royal Eagles and the players were on fire.

Boschfontein FC were the first to score, but the Royal Eagles were very spirited and fought back, equalising with a beautiful goal from a free kick.

The game ended with this draw, but Boschfontein FC earned their spot in the finals by scoring four goals to Royal Eagles’ three in the penalty shootout.

Langeloop Blue Crane and Schulzendal Eleven Experience did not disappoint fans either, presenting them with a final-worthy match.

They played to a draw in the 90 minutes of the game, and Schulzendal Eleven Experience were eliminated with three penalties to two.

This means that Boschfontein FC and Langeloop Blue Crane will once again be matched up in the finals tomorrow (Sunday) at KaMhlushwa Stadium.

The two teams also faced off last year and tournament coordinator, Kenneth Phiri said everyone is now looking forward to seeing if Boschfontein FC will make history. No team has managed to successfully defend their title in the history of the tournament.

“Only one team will remain unbeaten. We ask that teams accept defeat gracefully. The more you score, the happier the supporters are and the championship feeling is realised. May the best team win,” Phiri said.

On Sunday teams will again play in brand-new kit which was donated by RCL Foods. The jerseys were officially handed over by Selati Cup brand ambassador, Enocent Mkhabela on Thursday afternoon.

Selati Cup ambassador, Enocent Mkhabela.

Mkhabela is from Nkomazi and had his start in the Selati Cup. He has since played for teams like Platinum Stars, Supersport United, Kaizer Chiefs and is currently contracted to Highlands Park.

He hopes to remind players that it is possible to excel, even if you are from a rural community.

Mkhabela interacted with players during the semi-finals, will do so again during the finals and hosted a clinic for young players.

“I am very honoured to have been chosen as an ambassador. I hope to inspire teams to believe in themselves, be disciplined, stick to the basics and not to compare themselves to others. Be positive and work towards what you want to achieve. Remember that rejection can be a blessing in disguise,” he told Corridor Gazette during the handover.

Fans can expect a programme packed with soccer from men, women and youngsters from 09:00 at KaMhlushwa Stadium tomorrow (Sunday).
