Hockey players clash during Mpumalanga u/16 boys playoffs

Xolani Grootboom, head of Penryn College Sport, said the school is very proud to have hosted the u/16 Mpumalanga Hockey Playoffs on their campus.

The season’s hockey clashes came down to the cream of the crop battling it out in the Mpumalanga u/16 boys playoffs.

 

They all had one goal in mind – reaching the final at the Hockey Farm in eMalahleni on July 13.

These u/16 boys played their hearts out for bragging rights against various schools across the province. The morning started off well for Hoërskool Nelspruit, who cinched their first win against Curro Nelspruit, 3-1.

 

 

The hosting school, Penryn, played Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog and walked away with a convincing 2-0 win.

HTS Witbank advanced to the final by thrashing Hoërskool Oosterland with 4-0, and in a equal number of goals, NHS got a hiding against Hoërskool Secunda.

 

 

Hoërskool Middelburg took on Hoër Tegniese Skool Middelburg in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The afternoon session kicked off with the hosts losing 3-0 to HTS Witbank. Oosterland played against Hoërskool Secunda 2 and the latter took the spoils 2-1.

Curro Nelspruit and HTS Middelburg’s game ended in a draw, 1-1 followed by another draw of 2-2 following Hoërskool Middelburg and Hoërskool Secunda 1’s battle.

 

 

Hoerskool Secunda 2 concluded the day in spectacular fashion when they met with Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog. Secunda managed to beat the latter 2-1.

“The local u/16 teams performed very well, but narrowly missed out on the opportunity to move along to the finals,” he said.
