Riverside Park Rudamans race raise funds for charity

Each year a donation from the proceeds of the race is made to a different children's charity.

Runners tackled the Riverside Park Rudamans 10km Charity Road Race on Saturday.It is hosted by Riverside Park CID in collaboration with Rudamans Nelspruit.

This race was first hosted by Riverside Park City Improvement District (CID) in 2011, as Take a Step for Children.

 

In 2018 Rudamans collaborated in hosting the race, and the start/finish was moved to their premises at 4 Tranquil Flow Street. For the first time, an online entry option was available to runners.

The 10-kilometre route took runners along the roads of Riverside Park CID, a loop through the beautiful Lowveld Botanical Garden, along a small distance of easy trail running, proceeding under the bridge at Semcorp Silulumanzi, over the historic bridge and into Riverside Industrial CID.

Runners then crossed the intersection at the R37 before heading along Weir Street back to the starting point.

 

Kuen Pappas, one of the organisers, said the number of runners increased this year.

“There were about 386 runners. Rudamans was a very good host. Everything went well and we had no hiccups,” he said.

Motlalepula Mothosola of Lowmed is the 2019 winner of the race.

He won the race in a time of 31 minutes and 47 seconds, followed by Abednico Mashaba of Born to Win, with a time of 32 minutes and three seconds. Samuel Mathabatha of Lowmed took third place and completed the race with 32 minutes and
32 seconds.

Thandeka Mnisi of Nedbank took first place in the women’s category, completing the race in 41 minutes and 45 seconds.

Winile Mnisi of Nedbank came in after her with a time of 43 minutes and 24 seconds. In the third place it was Zanele Sehohle from Hoërskool Rob Ferreira, who was also second in the juniors category (43:50).

Rivaldo Nhuvunga of Gijimas Nkomazi led the juniors with a time of 35 minutes and 24 seconds.
In the 40-year-old category, Ntuthuko Maseko bagged first place (33:57). Marinda Venter was in the first woman in this category to cross the line (54:37).

Philip van Rooyen of Run/Walk for Life was first in the 50-year-old category, completing the race in 29:41. Julie Argule of Team Vitality took first place in the women’s category with 48 minutes, two seconds.

For the 60-year-olds, Enos Ndibande took the lead (46:38) and Veronica Doubell of Legogote Villagers came first among the women with a time of one hour, two minutes and 40 seconds.
