Tennis players from all corners of the province gathered at the Nelspruit Tennis Club this past weekend to fight for top honours at this year’s Mpumalanga Tiebreaker Bonanza.

On day one of this two-day tournament, the mixed doubles pairs were divided into groups with each pair playing four matches of five tiebreakers. Each tiebreaker won meant a point in the bag for the victors. The matches came thick and fast and it was difficult to predict the winners as the competition was close.

On day two, the competition separated the wheat from the chaff as the format moved to best-of-three tiebreakers. Local child prodigies, Du Toit Wessels and Arili Boshoff won the A section, following a hard-fought victory against mother-and-son duo Riekie and Zander du Preez. In the B section, Wiseman Nkambule and Sylvia Otto of Nelspruit Tennis Club came out on top against Christo Esterhuizen of Barberton Tennis Club and Elzette Theron of Nelspruit Tennis Club.
