IN PHOTOS: Obstacle course prove gruelling

Obstacle course racers were back in action at the OCR Nelspruit venue at Core 360 on Saturday.

This was the second leg of the competition before it concludes at the same venue on June 5. As with all sport events that were held over the weekend, it soon became evident that the wet weather would take its toll on the athletes and some of the obstacles, like the iron rig, could not be completed as they were too slippery. It did, however, not deter endurance athletes as they powered through various other obstacles like the bucket carry, tyre drag-over, river crossing, over and under, and the leopard crawl, to name a few.

Pieter Briel won the five-kilometre OCR race in a time of 45:56. Michael Meyer crossed the finish line in 46:57 to take second place, followed by Candy Lukhele in 56:06 and Glen Mhlongo in 56:28.

In the end, no runner pulled through with the 10-kilometre OCR or trail run. NNC Pumas winger, Ruwellyn Isbell made quick work of the five-kilometre trail run in a time of 23 minutes and 36 seconds. Janue Gower, however, was breathing down his neck and finished just a few seconds later.
