Wolves defeat White River in first round of the Community Gold Cup

White River scored a try in each half, but it was not enough against a dominant Wolves.

The Northam Wolves from North West beat White River Rugby Club of Mpumalanga 7-14 in the African Rainbow Community Gold Cup round of 32 on Saturday.

The match was played at the Wolves’ home ground at Millstream River Estate in Skeerpoort near Hartbeespoort.
As 2022 Mpumalanga Premier League runners-up, White River qualified for the 2023 national club competition.

The half-time score was 21-7 in favour of the home team. The North West team outscored the Mpumalanga team by seven tries to two.

The Wolves dominated the set pieces and with the quality front-foot ball, and the backs were sublime on attack.

White River put up a gallant fight, but could not match the precision and power of the Wolves’ game.

The home team dominated more as the match progressed, and were equally clinical on defence as they were on attack.

Northam Wolves will host the Harlequins Rugby Club in the round of 16 on Saturday August 16.
