Golfers take to the greens of Mbombela Golf Club for charity

A full course was played to raise funds for CANSA Mpumalanga. To date, R132 000 has been raised, though there are still funds outstanding from some pledges.

CANSA Mpumalanga held its annual golf day at the Mbombela Golf Club on September 14.

Altogether 128 players in teams of four spent the day on the course, all in the name of a good cause.

“What an amazing event! Thank you to everyone who supported our golf day. This was most certainly an unforgettable day. The generosity of our community is just unmatched, we can’t thank you enough!” Mpumalanga CANSA wrote in a Facebook post after the event.

A total of R132 000 has been raised thus far, though there are still funds outstanding from some pledges.

Monique Bornman, affiliated with CANSA Mpumalanga and one of the women at the helm of the golf day, told Lowvelder it was heart-warming to see the community join hands to support their cause, despite the current economical challenges everybody is facing.

“Our sponsors and community were really kind to us. People who could not necessarily make a donation sponsored their time, prizes, goodie bag items or anything possible that could contribute to the day’s success,” she said.

The funds raised will go towards the care homes, stoma clinics, wig clinics, early detection programmes, awareness campaigns, counselling services (in person and online) and cancer research funding programmes operated and supported by CANSA.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by both the golfers and sponsors of the event.
