TS Galaxy still nearing spot in top four

In spite of their loss to league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday April 29, TS Galaxy are only two points off of the top four in the DStv Premiership.

A win over Moroka Swallows in Pretoria on Friday April 26 is helping TS Galaxy stay within touching distance of a spot in the top four of the DStv Premiership, despite losing to Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday April 29.

The loss to Sundowns came at a time when TS Galaxy had regained some confidence courtesy of their win over the Swallows at the weekend. They’d beaten the Dube Birds 2-1 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium with it being a TS Galaxy home fixture, after the match was moved from Mbombela Stadium due to the Metro FM Awards being held there over the weekend.

In-form players Sphiwe Mahlangu and Samir Nurkovic netted the all-important goals for The Rockets in their win against the Swallows. This helped them stave off a late comeback from Moroka Swallows, who pulled a goal back in the 80th minute courtesy of a penalty from Gabadinho Mhango.

They would have hoped to then carry this return to form over into their fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday night, which was the first of their catch-up fixtures to be played.

The two battled it out at Loftus Versveld in Pretoria, with TS Galaxy eyeing an upset victory that would lift them into the top four and into one of the spots in contention for the CAF Confederations Cup.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way the men from Mpumalanga had hoped, as Themba Zwane bagged a hat-trick of assists and Peter Shalulile netted a brace to hand Masandawana a 3-0 win. This means TS Galaxy remains in fifth place, two points below Sekhukhune United in fourth place.

They will have the chance to leapfrog Sekhukhune and take over the fourth spot on Friday May 3 when the two sides lock horns at Makhulong Stadium in Johannesburg. It will be tough for The Rockets, though, as they have a poor record away from home, and Sekhukhune United boasts one of the best home records this season.
