Samuel Mathabatha outraces Abednico Mashaba to win SHL 10km at TUT Mbombela Campus

Nomvula Sithole of LowMed won the women's race in 00:39:46.

Samuel Mathabatha of Bella’s Athletics Club outpaced rival Abednico Mashaba of Uniwisp to win the Supporting a Healthy Lifestyle 10km Road Race on Saturday October 7.

The race started and finished at the TUT Mbombela Campus.

Mathabatha clocked 00:30:43, while Mashaba came in at 00:31:37.

In third place was Uniwisp’s Daniel Kipchumba. The Kenyan finished in 00:31:37.

LowMed’s Nomvula Sithole added another victory to her impressive résumé by winning the women’s 10km race in 00:39:46.

Rudo Mhonderwa of Nedbank LVCC was second in 00:40:00, and the City of Mbombela Marathon Club’s Samkelisiwe Thwala was third in 00:41:55.

A well-supported 4.9km fun run was also held, with competitors ranging in age from eight to 81.

Bandile Gininda of Msogwaba was the hero of the day, running the 4.9km fun run in a pair of flip-flops.

• Men 50+: Alpheus Motlaung (Nelspruit Marathon Club) – 00:41:47

• Men 70+: Matthews Ngwenya (Barberton Mines) – 01:19:31
• Junior women: Rebekah Braack (Barberton Mines) – 00:50:27
• Women 40+: Shelley Parnell (Run/Walk for Life) – 01:00:51
• Women 50+: Kate Hulett (Run/Walk for Life) – 00:51:34
• Women 60+: Veronica Dobell (Legogote Villagers) – 01:05:45
• Women 70+: Sibongile Qwabe (Nelspruit Marathon Club) – 01:28:37.
