IN PHOTOS: Last-gasp goal earns Chiefs draw against Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium

Amakhosi scored the equaliser late in the second half.

Kaizer Chiefs scored a goal at the death to salvage a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership match in blazing hot weather at Mbombela Stadium on Monday afternoon, December 16.

It was a match of two halves, with the home team dominating the first 45 minutes and Amakhosi coming back strongly in the second stanza.

The Chiefs got off to a shaky start with their defence soon getting loud disapproval from their fans. TS Galaxy forward Dzenan Zajmovic looked particularly dangerous, being gifted possession by the Chiefs’ defence.

The Rockets had the better of the first half and Samukelo Kabini put them up 1-0 at 35 minutes. TS Galaxy won a corner and Kabini was in the perfect position for a header thanks to his teammates securing possession in the box. The ball went in low to the left of the net.

The Chiefs came out snorting in the second half and Galaxy were forced to defend. Keeper Ira Tapé was particularly impressive.

The Rockets put up a gallant fight and also had their chances. It seemed that the home team was going to bag three points as the match went into referee’s optional time.

With the Chiefs’ fans, who were in the majority, very quiet, Tapé was eventually beaten on 90+6 minutes. Ranga Chiraviro shot from close range into the bottom left corner and the Galaxy goal-minder did not stand a chance.

The Amakhosi faithful boisterously celebrated the goal.

Chiefs had 60% of the possession and had 11 shots at goal to the Rockets’ four, but the visitors’ finishing let them down. The Rockets played well at stages, but lacked consistency. They, too, were not as clinical as they should have been.

Kaizer Chiefs remain ninth on the log with 12 points and TS Galaxy 10th on 10 points.
