Pumas power far too strong for Welwitschias

The Pumas will face Uganda at Nelspruit Rugby Club on Friday.

The Airlink Pumas defeated the Welwitchias 59-19 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday.

The match was the first of two pre-Currie Cup international games the Pumas are playing.

The Pumas held a 26-14 half-time lead.

The Mpumalanga team were simply too strong for Namibia. They dominated the set pieces and secured the possession to score nine tries.

Fly half Danrich Visagie was named the man of the match.

The Airlink Pumas will play their second warm-up match against Uganda at Nelspruit Rugby Club at 14:00 tomorrow, June 27. The Ugandans will utilise the game in preparation for the Rugby Africa Cup 2025 to be played at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala from July 8 to 19.

Namibia will play Italy in a international friendly at the Hage Geingob Stadium on Friday night. Seventeen of the Welwitschias’ players in the match-day 23 were also selected for the game against the Pumas.

The Pumas will commence their 2025 Carling Currie Cup campaign against the Suzuki Griquas at Mbombela Stadium on July 25.
