IN PHOTOS: Airlink Pumas’ try fest tames Northam Wolves

Danrich Visagie was in red-hot form in the match.

The Airlink Pumas hosted the Northam Wolves, a club from Hartbeespoort, in a Carling Currie Cup pre-season friendly at Nelspruit Rugby Club on Saturday, July 5.

A small but vocal group of home fans enjoyed the spectacle as the Pumas ran in 12 tries to secure an 84–26 victory.

While the Pumas’ dominance was clear, the Wolves’ 26-point effort was a notable achievement for a club side, especially considering the Pumas conceded an average of just 21 points per game during the league phase of the recent SA Cup.

The mild Lowveld winter weather provided ideal conditions for the 13:00 kick-off.

The result was secondary to the purpose of the match: it served as valuable preparation for both sides — the Pumas ahead of their 2025 Carling Currie Cup campaign, and the Wolves as part of their ongoing Waterberg Rugby League season.

Danrich Visagie stood out with two tries and nine conversions, contributing 28 points.

The Airlink Pumas will officially kick off their Currie Cup season against the Suzuki Griquas at Mbombela Stadium on Friday, July 25, at 19:00.

Pumas point scorers:
Tries: Danrich Visagie (2), Eduan Swart, Jeandré Leonard, Tiaan de Klerk, Ross Braude, Darren Adonis, Sango Xamlashe, Stefan Coetzee, Tino Swanepoel, Dewald Maritz, Lundi Msenge.
Conversions: Visagie (9), Russwill Fredericks (3).
