Pumas defeat Romania A in third round of Toyota Challenge

The Pumas lost against the Black Lion, but defeated the Lusitanos and Romania A.

The Airlink Pumas finished the Toyota Challenge with two victories and a defeat. They won 46-26 against Romania A in the final round of matches on Sunday, June 14. The Mpumalanga team led 24-5 at half-time.
The Black Lion defeated the Pumas 46-36 in the opening match, and the Pumas won 57-24 against the Cartrack Lusitanos from Portugal in the second round.

The tournament, which serves as a major international proving ground, featured thrilling matchups across June, with the competition split between Bloemfontein and an upcoming second leg in Tbilisi, Georgia, later in the year.

Also on Sunday, the Toyota Cheetahs executed a second-half comeback to defeat Georgia’s Black Lion 47-31, after trailing 17-7 at half-time.

The Suzuki Griquas were impressive, smashing Lusitanos 67-7.

The Airlink Pumas will now prepare for the 2026 Carling Currie Cup. They will face the Sharks at home in their first match on July 17.
