IN PHOTOS: White River shift up a gear in second half to defeat Barberton

White River and Nelspruit will clash on Saturday, June 20. Both teams have already secured home semi-finals.

White River Rugby Club retained their position on the top of the Mpumalanga Super League with a 27-5 win over Barberton Rugby Club at Coronation Park on Saturday.

The game was evenly matched in the first half with the visitors leading 7-5 at the break. But White River lifted their game in the second half for a deserved victory.

Lian Jordaan scored a try for Barberton.

For White River, Visser Maas, Simon Dzomba, Divan Janse van Rensburg, and Joubert Willers scored tries. Janse van Rensburg kicked one conversion, as did Zain Christians. Christians also slotted a penalty goal.

Nelspruit Rugby Club travelled to the Highveld for a fixture against Witbank Rugby Club. It was a tough, closely contested match, but Nelspruit dug deep for a 34-24 win.

Sasol Rugby Club hosted the Highlanders from Newcastle in Secunda. The Sasol boys were in fine form, winning 76-26.

White River has 37 log points with two matches remaining before the semi-finals. Nelspruit is second on 35 points. Both teams have already secured home semi-finals.

The other two semi-finalists will be decided on the results of the last two rounds. Barberton is third on the log with 20 points, Sasol fourth on 16 and Witbank fifth on 15.

The Highlanders are last with eight log points.

• Sasol v Barberton
• Witbank v Highlanders
• White River v Nelspruit.
