Mpumalanga Rugby Union pays tribute to long-serving administrator, the late Riaan Kotze

The veteran official served provincial rugby for more than two decades before his death.

The deputy president of the Mpumalanga Rugby Union (MRU), Riaan Kotze, passed away over the weekend. He celebrated his 55th birthday on September 14.

The date and cause of his death were unknown at the time of publication.

Official dedicates 20 years to provincial rugby

Kotze dedicated more than 20 years of continuous service to Mpumalanga rugby, serving the game at club, regional and provincial level. He progressed from secretary and chairperson of Ferros/Witbank Rugby Club and the Nkangala Region to serving as a member of the MRU council for 19 years and, since 2022, as the organisation’s deputy president.

“His passing is a tremendous loss to the Mpumalanga rugby family,” said MRU CEO Marius van Rensburg. “Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. May his contribution to Mpumalanga rugby and his legacy of service never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Riaan. You served the game with passion and dedication.”
