Developing young cricketers for the future
To cultivate cricketers such as the legendary Jacques Kallis and the first ethnically black player to play for the South African team, Makhaya Ntini, schools need to do their bit.

Uplands College recently organised a day/night minicricket u/7 and u/8 festival for the second year in a row. The aim of this event was to nurture and develop the next generation of cricketers. The u/15s from Uplands, assisted, coached and mentored the youngsters.
It was a great success, with seven u/7s teams and seven u/8s from primary and preschools based in White River and the Lowveld area participating. All the teams played under floodlights, which was a new and exciting experience for most of these young sports enthusiasts. The young Uplands cricket teams played against Curro and Penryn College, St Peter’s and Little Cubs Montessori. The talent among them was outstanding and they played like champions.
The laughter and cheering was so inspirational. “We can be so proud of our youngsters. Well done to all,” said Jenny Simons of Uplands Preparatory School.
