The power is in every single game

This was the message conveyed by soccer legend - former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs captain Neil Tovey during the Powerade Performance Sessions at Lowveld High School and their rivals, East High School last week.

Whenever it’s a game with professionals or a local school derby, there is power in every game. This was the message conveyed by soccer legend – former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs captain Neil Tovey during the Powerade Performance Sessions at Lowveld High School and their rivals, East High School this week.

Both these schools are part of 11 South African Schools that have won the soccer Powerade Perfomance Sessions as part of the Powerade Schools Programme.

Powerade believes that there is power in every game and is committed to providing young South Africans sportsmen with a passion for rugby, soccer and cricket. They also gives them a platform to achieve sporting success by giving them access to the best coaching and training through this programme, and who better than the man himself, Tovey.

During the soccer performance sessions, these sportsmen were exposed to the correct training and the benefits of hydration to help enable them to reach peak fitness at the right time, while Tovey shared his wisdom and knowledge about the game.

“Powerade believes that by providing informative and interactive experiences like these to sportsmen, their passion for the game of soccer will be focused on a great future in the game,” said James Maclachlan, IMC marketing assets manager of Coca-Cola South Africa.

“We recognise that there is power in every game and through this programme, born sportsmen will be exposed to information and various means of training that will have long-term benefits to their success,” said Maclachlan.

“You obviously can’t teach these boys everything in one afternoon. They understand exactly where the game has gone, but for some of them it’s just a hobby, but others really have talent and want to do well. This becomes clear when you see how hard these guys worked in the training session and how concentrated they were. If they concentrate and make mistakes I don’t mind.

“Sharing your knowledge is what the game is all about, and that is how you learn. I shared my knowledge not only with the players, but with the coaches as well, so that they know how to let the players reach their full potential. You can never stop gaining knowledge in this game,” said Tovey.

Lowvelder asked him what power he thought was in every game. “The power in every game is that of not wanting to lose and not wanting to be second. You always want to be best, but you also have to make peace with losing sometimes.”
