Penryn sports stars are honoured
Penryn College's Jesse Coertzen and Ryan Begg received the most individual nominations and claimed awards as sportswoman and sportsman of the year.
For Jesse’s participation as captain of the first hockey, cricket and tennis team as well as representing Mpumalanga during the country districts, she received this premier award. The decision to crown Ryan sportsman of the year was for his participation as captain of the first hockey and swimming team as well as representing the Mpumalanga u/18A hockey team and playing for Penryn’s first XV rugby team.
Recently chosen as head boy for 2015/2016, Hadrick Coertze walked away with the Wicht Trophy for senior rugby player of the year and also got Eagle Trophies for cricket and hockey.
Eagle Trophies (players from all sporting codes who have represented the first team on 50 occasions):
• Rugby – Bonga Khoza and William Wilken
• Cricket – Hadrick Coertze and Ryan Kennett
• Boys hockey – Ryan Begg, Hadrick Coertze and Penang Shirindza
• Girls hockey – Jesse Coertzen, Sam de Araujo and Natasha Cambell
• Netball – Karla Olivier, Sabine Scholle and Lebo Zulu.
• An Eagle Trophy was also awarded to a Penryn pupil who has represented Mpumalanga Squash for five consecutive years, Leila Christensen.
